This photograph was taken in the late 50s.  Apart from the appearance of cars, not much seems to have changed in this later photograph.

The pier is 470m long and is constructed mainly of steel.  I find that a walk along the pier the morning after the night before wakes you up.  The cafe at the end of the pier sells delicious home made scones and does a good cup of tea.  Quality.
