Caernarfonshire and Anglesey Infirmary

The C&A Infirmary, 1944.  Back in those days you had to pay for your stay in hospital.  This was the main hospital for Caernarfonshire and Anglesey.  In 1984 the much larger and modern Ysbyty Gwynedd opened its doors and the C&A was demolished.  A Safeway supermarket now stands on the former C&A site.

This photograph brought back memories for Alwyn Williams of Bangor - he emailed me to say:

I remember going there to get my tonsils whipped out when I was five. It wasn't long after that when it closed down (probably 'cos I screamed the roof down)!  If I remember correctly, it was as Victorian as you could possibly get!
